Major Pipeline Refurbishment in Grangemouth

A Multinational Chemical Company had corrosion issues with their cooling water and air supply pipelines which were suffering from severe corrosion and were in desperate need of protection and re-coating.

To access the pipelines scaffolding was required. The design of the pipelines made access very difficult, restricting movement, particularly underneath the pipes. The project also had to be carried out in cold and wet conditions.

The pipes were HP blasted to WJ-3/WJ-4 standard, before one primer coat of wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RL 500PF was applied. To complete the system, one topcoat of Epo-chem™ RC 500GTC, an epoxy/acrylic coating with exceptional UV and chemical resistance, which provides long term colour and gloss retention, was applied.

During the surface preparation and priming stages it was cold and was raining almost every day. Utilising this Chemco system resulted in huge time and cost savings being achieved as the surface preparation and application could take place despite the adverse weather conditions.

By utilising this system, the following benefits can be achieved:

  • No grit blasting required
  • Application could be carried out in adverse weather conditions
  • Significantly reduced downtime
  • Outstanding UV and chemical resistance
  • Reduced H&S and Fire risks
